The idea for a ventriculostomy system that meets the highest standards of safety, stability and standardization - the Duisburg Needle - emerged from practical experience back in 1994. Developed by users for users, the goal was clear from the beginning: a quick-to-use, robust system for emergencies that also minimizes the risk of infection.
The needle, made from high-quality titanium, was already convincing in early studies with a significant reduction in infections.
Today, it has become an indispensable part of everyday neurosurgery: The system has proven itself in thousands of procedures in renowned German clinics - especially in acute hydrocephalus, intracerebral and subarachnoid hemorrhages and posterior fossa tumors with occlusive hydrocephalus.
The procedures are usually performed directly at the patient's bedside in the intensive care unit - quickly, safely and routinely by trained neurosurgeons.

The system includes

The titanium skull screw with self-tapping thread is screwed into the skull using a special screwdriver. The self-tapping thread guarantees a stable fixation of the screw.
The needle has a diameter of only 0.8 mm and has a Luer lock connection as well as 4 markings at 1 cm intervals. Drainage takes place via 30 openings with a diameter of 0.55 mm in a range of 18 mm from the tip of the needle
